Board of Directors and Staff

Members of the Pittsburgh chapter Board of Directors are committed activists with a wide range of backgrounds and professions. Directors are elected for three year terms at the Annual Meeting in December. Officers are also elected at the Annual Meeting and serve one year terms.

Daniel Giovannelli

Executive Director

Dan’s involvement began eight years ago with participation in model United Nations at the University of Pittsburgh. Over the intervening years he has been an intern, co-facilitated programming and served on the Board of Directors. He now serves as the Acting Executive Director and the Director of Educational Programs. Dan has a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Program Associate

Buky is originally from Nigeria. She is deeply committed to global issues and making advocacy more accessible to Pittsburgh citizens. She has been working as the Program Associate at GSP since Winter 2006.
Tim Lessick

Timothy M. Lessick

Communications Associate

Originally from Cleveland, OH, Tim graduated from Duquesne University in Spring 2009 with a BA in Political Science and International Relations. He interned for the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition in Spring 2009 and, as of May 2009, serves as the Communications Associate at GSP where he runs and maintains the Pittsburgh Human Rights Network and coordinates new media outreach.
Rachel Shapiro

Intern

Rachel is a rising junior at New York University studying Politics and Mathematics. She has been involved in both STAND and Amnesty International and worked on the Familiar Voices campaign, a film about the genocide in Darfur, and The G-Word: For Those Born Later, a production about human rights abuses throughout history.
Mike Tatarski

Michael Tatarski

Intern

Michael is a rising senior majoring in Political Science and History at the University of Pittsburgh. Born and raised in New Orleans, Michael found his way to Pitt through family located in the area. His interest in global affairs developed a couple of years ago and his belief in the need for global cooperation and development has strengthened since then. In addition to interning at GSP, Michael is involved in the University of Pittsburgh's Model UN Program.
