The prevalence of high quality narrative films with global issue themes such as Blood Diamond, Amazing Grace, and Hotel Rwanda are a valuable resource to teachers. . Dr. Melissa Reed, Associate Director of Global Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, will present. This workshop will help teachers develop an effective method to use film as a complement to their curriculum. This method of teaching can help teachers meet the guidelines of the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Academic Standards for Geography, The Human Characteristics of People and Places, section 7.3.12, A-E. This workshop is being offered for Act 48 continuing education credits and is co-sponsored by the Global Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh.
